A question of scruples…

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

It goes without saying that the question infers as such GR. It is not what you said but a case of what you did not say. The question is as vague as is the interpretation of whether the RoC sees us as Cypriots or not. IT says one thing and does another. The answer is equally vague, as in we feel confused because of the way the RoC treats us. You ask but you already know or expect the answer as you see it. The games that are being played do not give us the privilege of being able to answer without sticking a BUT in somewhere.

Yeah, RoC should not have been vague on you. Should have prosecuted all of you for supporting the crimes and illegalities against her. That would be preferwable to you wouldn't it?

What, just like they prosecuted all those that supported EOKA and the junta

NB: Although the question aims Turkish Cypriots, as a topic it is open to all so feel free to participate regardless of ethnic background.

Aren't we all Cypriots then??????

We are only all Cypriots when is suits them and they can score political booty from claiming they represent the whole island, pathetic really.

And they wonder why more and more people are prefering to be just Turkish

We have never been considered to be Cypriots or equal to the GCs. I remember as a kid. Every time we traveled in and out of Cyprus whether by road, sea or air, everybodies passport would be checked and handed back to them, our passports were always thrown back at us, like you would throw a bone to a dog. My dad always used to be so offended and used to curse them and say "one day you sons of whores, one day" and how right he was. That day soon came and thank god he lived to see it.

Forget all this we are all Cypriot dream. The GCs think of us as the Israeli's think of the Palestinians. In their eyes we are less human than them.

I was with the impression that you travelled only once out of Cyprus, by the time you emmigrated no?

Or are you referring to the times you were travelling out of your own castle-ghetto-enclaves?

Pyrpolizer,

I left Cyprus in 64 but never stayed away for more than a year at any time. Now days it is as frequent as 6 to 8 weeks.

I came in February via Larnaca, no problem. Left a week later, my cousin drove us through the border, our luggage's were checked for cigarettes and whatever else we may have had. I politely opened the suit case, he asked me to open the other one. he checked them and checked our passports during all this we said yes sir, thank you sir, have a nice day sir. He never even looked at or spoke at us, just ordered us about .It was as if we did not exist.

I guarantee it will be no different in 50 or 100 years time. We will always be treated like shit. With a reunification like that I say f*** it.

I'd like to see how long you'd be smiling for if you worked as a cop at the crossing... 100 cars?, 1,000 cars? 5,000 cars? per day!

GT,

I am a frequent flier. I'd like to think I'm a well travelled person. Multiply the figures you've given by a hundred, those are the figures Germans, Italians, Americans. Australians, Jamaicans etc etc deal with on their borders. If they can be polite and acknowledge your existence so can our GC brothers. No?

Mate, Greek/GC police are absolute fucking ARSEHOLES, doesn't matter where they work or what time of the day it is, don't know if I'm just unlucky and keep bumping into the wrong ones, or they are always like that, but even Turkish police makes an effort to be polite, TRNC police is always easy and smiling, but Greek/GC police no way, maybe its the vulgar phonetics of the Greek language or they just don't like Turks i don't know, but they are definitely good at making you feel very unwelcome that's for sure!

Last time i tried to cross i was literally interrogated for half an hour, only to be told in the most patronising and rude way, not to return unless i get a RoC passport, which is not going to happen anytime soon, so screw them, its a fortune to spend a day down there anyways, plus i get treated like an asylum seeker and the faces you have to put up with just does it for me, people say Turks and Greeks are very similar, not a chance, i have been to many countries and i tell you i have never met a nation that generally come across to be as cocky and obnoxious as the Greeks, its like constantly being told off for being there, plus they seem to love making racist comments about Tc's and they look like they are just sick and tired of tourists, which is the most annoying attitude to deal with for someone who is visiting, and its not only when I'm there, it pretty much the same from the people who visit my area as well, they come to my hotel for food so i serve them, the way they order you around, i might as well get spat in my face...

I am still to make some decent friends from the other side who will some day hopefully change my mind...

I agree with you 100%. I have many Greek/GC friends in the UK, we have mutual respect and genuine friendship. But may it be GC police may it be GC civilians, I have always felt intimidated by them. Even the ones in the casinos they push their weight around and show total disrespect to the croupiers and TC players.

We cannot go forward with this kind of attitude by these guys. At the end of the day we have the luxury of choosing to be with or without them. They have to convince us that we are compatible and better off with them. So far I'm not convinced.

I bet if the cop stopped to ask you questions, even in a polite manner, you would STILL be moaning that he was treating you as a suspicious character because you are a Turkish Cypriot. You guys just love to make up stories where you are the victim to add to your push for a independant Turkish state in Cyprus.

What do you expect a police officer to do if he has to search maybe a 1,000 cars a week!!?? Stop being such a baby.

Thats why I find it so hard to believe some of the Turkish Cypriot stories of harrassment in the past because I have seen at first hand, from websites such as this, how many Turkish Cypriots LIE or manipulate the truth about being a victim to push through their political ideologies.

A week??? It's actually between 2,500 and 7,000 per day, the highest figures being during weekends and TC holidays, and most of the TCs don't even speak English; talk about a dream job...
