Yes you're right I often get really confused as the questions are so badly written. Poor kids, they get so demoralised.
When doing Maths we should concentrate on the FIGURES and not so much if the "story" makes perfect sense.
The question aims to test kid's ability to use cross-multiplication and if they can show the calculations that lead up to an answer of 13.5 then it's ok. Just move on to the next question VW!
