Interesting Ancestors

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

My great great great great grandfather was a priest , Ioannikios, he started a revolt in 1833 at Trikomo. He was caught and executed, some say he was burned alive but others said he was dragged through the streets by a horse until he died, he met a gruesome end anyway.

On a lighter note HMS Victory is well worth a visit but I was told that what you see is only about 5% original, the ship was refitted and repaired several times. There is another equally interesting ship in Portsmouth called HMS Warrior, an iron steam driven ship with old-fashioned cannons, it's in fantastic condition, much bigger than Victory and worth a visit.

i know the feeling Karma. My family were land owners in Devon near Colyton. In 1525 my ancestor was left 2 shillings in his father's will because he had married a girl of whom he disapproved, he was aged 34 at that time, hardly a rash youth, the younger brother was left the farms and lands.

In 2001 I visited the farm and the present owner kindly showed me around. It is very remote, all trace of that branch of my family have gone from the area and must have died out. Bastards!

Our family was scattered from their ancestral home by the actions of an arrogant old patriach!

My grandparents despite being wealthy and travelling the world (rhis is why I like Cyrus as it was thier favourite out of many) went gambling and blew the lot!

C'est la vie as they say!

Richard Burton had 'the voice' to die for, wow that voice.

Indeed, Richard Burton did have a great voice.....specially for a Welsh man. I wish I had seen him on stage acting, which was his passion and what he was great at. I believe movies were his second choice. I'm sure Liz Taylor married him twice, because of his great voice.

The HMS Victory is over 2 hundred years old, so it has been repaired many times over, as most boats do........................I should know.

The HMS Warrior is a wonderful ship. 3 years ago, good friends of mine got married on her. It was a wonderful scene and the wedding pictures were just great.

I grew up with ships and the sea and have always loved the sea.

I feel the best interpretation of the way it must have been is 'Master and Commander' the way they depict the life at sea and the devastation of a battle.

I don't remember, but did she also divorce him twice, or did he die while being married to her. :?:

I made it sound like, being married to Liz, killed him.

I really did not meant that.

Maybe it did see him off but I think it was more to do with the drinking and heavy smoking. Not quite so 'romantic'!
