I think you have a good point here Peace (Lefke). Much of Cyprus's previous troubles have mainly been due to outside interference. Naturally we cannot deny our roots, that is cultural and religious, BUT Cyprus and Cypriots do have a unique identity and there is something that binds all Cypriots together.
This has been proven in the recent opening of the Green Line and even before when ordinary people used to live and work together. What we need to decide is do we align ourseleves with the 2 motherlands and continue with the current artificial separation OR, do we want a more or less united Cyprus with no borders?
My family originally came from the northern side (now in UK), and sometimes i have felt that things will never change in Cyprus. But with the demonstrations by T/Cypriots for a united Cyprus i think people do want a solution to end this artificial partition. I am in the UK, but it is great to hear that T/Cypriots like you want a solution, and just as importantly RECONCILIATION, because without this we cannot have a peaceful solution.
I have to admit that most G/Cypriots have become quite apathetic, but deep down i think they want some alternative to the current situation. Some people may be lucky enough to go back to their homes and land, but whatever the solution is, there needs to be some give and take on both sides.
If Cypriots work together for REAL Peace and reconciliation, then i think we can build a better future for all people in Cyprus.
