Are there any Hire Car companies right at the border, on the North side? I was thinking of being dropped at at the border, cross through and then pick up a hired car on the other side, to avoid the hassles that could come with crossing over from South to North.

What town is right at the border - is that Nicosia? How far is it from Limassol and what is the distance from the border to Bellapais?

Hope somebody can answer to help with my upcoming holiday in July.

Thank you!
Very Happy

Most of the car hire companies will meet you at the crossing point to drop of the car and do the paper work - that said you may be waiting around given Cypriot time keeping. Best bet if you are staying in Bellapais is to take a taxi to the hotel and have the car dropped of there. If you are only going for a day trip many car hire companies do have office in Nicosia but I am not sure how close they are to the crossing points. Finally, the drive to Bellapais is between 30 and 45 mins depending on time of day.

I seem to recall seeing car hire company offices on the northern side of the Ledra Palace (not Ledra Street) crossing in Nicosia, but I could be mistaken there. Can you confirm that Halil?

It is about 70 kilometres from Limassol to Nicosia.

You might be interested to know that there is a fairly regular bus service between Limassol and Nicosia.

There are no borders in Cyprus. 1/3rd of Cyprus is occupied by Turkish troops who invaded Cyprus in 1974. I see you are very ignorant about Cyprus and that can get you in a lot of troubles.

Thanks Tim for the advice. I am definitely interested in that bus link and will look it up soon.

Sotos, thanks for the concern. I am as ignorant as I am led to believe by the internet. Is this incorrect then?

Yes it is intentionally incorrect. Do not believe anything you read on that site. In Cyprus there is only one country and no borders. The north part of Cyprus is illegally occupied by Turkey since 1974 and dealing with those criminals can get you in trouble.

I am not sure about it Tim . Best way might be come Nicosia by bus from Limassol and get in touch with car rent companies or get Taxi from the Leadra street Check point (Not ledra=Lokmaci ) to go Bellepais .
From Nicosia to Bellepais it will take 20 munites by Taxi .

Thanks guys! I will surely get myself organised with that info provided. Sotos, I will take my chances. Have heard good reports so am happy to give it a go... after all, I believe, in life...you get what you expect. I expect to deal with nice people when I get there. Thanks though. Wink

I have been asking around and it seems I was mistaken about the other side of the Ledra Palace crossing. There are some taxi companies there but no hire car offices.
