Nicosia is doing a fine job as a depository for refuse, but this has unfortunately contaminated the atmosphere and impeded their ability to play football against the Paphites... |

The heart of Cyprus???
How can that be when there is no ocean...
That's like me saying that Alice Springs is the heart of Australia.... |

| In the old days, nobody cared about politics-they were too busy with the grape harvest, watering the kolokassi and feeding the goats and donkeys etc.Maybe if we had less time on our hands, all this trouble in Cyprus would never have happened???What have most of us gained from it anyway?.......NOTHING and many of us lost everything! |

| My late father spent three quarters of his life in the UK. He lived quite comfortably, raised a family and passed away a couple of years ago aged 94. He once wrote "I have no regrets for leaving the village at such an early age but if I could live again and given the choice, I would rather live the natural life in the village than the artificial one as it is everywhere today" |

Very lately people are started writing about their villages ..... They were not interesting about politics it is true but somehow 2 communities were separating at some issues too . thats what i am getting from the books i read . There was a similarities at their culture and there was a differences as well . Even from getting dressed or eating , wedding celebrationes etc.... etc.....
here is the book called ''Güneyde Kalan Değerlerimiz '' (Our Valuables left behind The South) Writer is Hasan FEHMİ .
lets and see what he was writing about Istinjo (Tabanlı)
According to 1973 records 203 TC were living in this village.
Istinjo is 435 meters above the see level .it is surrounded by the hills.
Village was taken 635 mm rain(avarage).grapes were growing in this village for wine making. There was also farming in this village .
Village was famous with her broadbeans , palms and garlig.
they used to take their drinking water from fountain but when the water of fountain reduced they laid pipes to get their water for the village . They weren't have enough lands for farming from this reason lots of people immgrated from this village to Nicosia . Most of them were settle in Kaymaklı. When someone was saying Istinjo always Mahmut Efendi was coming to mind . He was the richest man in this village .Most of the lands were belonging this man .He was the Muhtar of the Istinjo for many years .....
Most of his kids were educated and they all left the village .
Some of the people were living at farm called Appiyaca it was near the village .
TC's from the village moved to south during the September 1975 and most of them settle down Village called Baikitre (balıkesir) in North .
according to this book Istinjo was built up in 1571 by ottamans .....
We all know above village was Birkibrisli village .... i hope he can have a words to say as well ..... Very lately i have read about his story at Cyprustalk ...... to read more pls visit that forum as well .
Next Village will be .... Melandra(Beşiktepe) also we will learn why it is called Beşiktepe ....... |
