The Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly had a very important debate on the Cyprus issue, on October 1st 2008.

The Assembly had been addressed by President Christofias on the previous day, and by Mehmet Ali Talat immediately preceding the debate itself, This is a video of the debate and also of the voting which followed before Resolution 1628 was passed at the end of the debate, by 99 'yes' votes and 20 'no' votes. The impact of watching the video, rather than just reading press reports only can not be overemphasised ...

The comments for the above video on its google page contain a link to video of the speech by President Demetris Christofias (in Greek) as well as the important question and answer session spoken in English.

and yet another link to the actual resolution which was so favourable for Cyprus.

No VP, your side of the "story" has been adequately heard!
If you watch the above 1st video, but also Talat's speech, you will find this out. Your side of the "story" was put across by Mrs. Kelec, a Turkish representative (26.50 - 29.37 min.,) and you may clearly watch and listen what a garbage diatribe of distortions and lies was put across the CoE assembly, by her. If you further watch the video, until the end, you will see how all of the nearly 20 pro-separatist amendments on the draft resolution, that were put across by the Turkish and partly British parliamentarians, were one after the other been debated and defeated; and how all pro-deontology amendments put across by the GC side have -but one, won the approval of the assembly. That should tell you a lesson that lies, distortions and manipulation, always have short legs!

It goes without saying that since the EU considers Turkey to be in violation of Cyprus's territorial integrity , and the ROC as the only legitimate authority in the entire island , that any resolutions will be in favour of the RoC .Turkey can not possibly expect the EU to amend its fundamental principles in order to accommodate her demands.

Most telling was the Greek minister referring to the fact that Talat in his speech, does not seem able to let go of the result of the Annan plan ... and equating this shortcoming with an inability to accept a Democratic decision .....

The will of the GCs to reject the Annan Plan was their Democratic right and hence cannot be continually questioned (otherwise why put the darn blasted thing to a vote if you are not going to accept the outcome Rolling Eyes ) ... and then the idiot Turkish minister which followed with his pre-prepared speech, carried on with the gripe about the Annan plan's "OXI" outcome Laughing ... This Turkish farce merely served to reiterate that the Turkish contingency cannot think in a Democratic fashion, and have a permanently cemented foot in the past.

Tc's have to admit, that people like the woman spouting out crap about confederations and secret Karamanlis documents in the 70's are helping them lose this battle. Notice the female deputies around her shaking their heads continuously while she is speaking. Laughing

My thanks to Oracle for keeping this thread 'current'.

I note there has been a flurry of comments in other theads on the subject since the videos were posted, and I provide links below without knowing whether they may already have been posted elsewhere.

Thanks bill corbett also for welcoming me back. It's always nice to know one is appreciated Smile
