Oracle dearest. The easiest thing to do is to lock this thread.
Halil, please find the name of the book you mentioned. I will translate some select excerpts from it. It will be interesting. Kifeas is also welcome to provide information. The worse that will happen is to prove that both communities have had a peaceful existence there.
In 1957, I was nearly shot dead in the spring cavern by an English soldier after I clambered through the 'caves' looking for dragons. They were searching the area for the EOKA. We were on a school visit. What a close shave that was. Never been there since. |

Here you go for you oldies out there. This ones my old man's village.
Achna village, has been captured by the Turkish army after Turkey attacked CYPRUS August 15, 1974. All Greek Cypriots inhabitants were forced out by Turkish military forces and are now refugees in their own country.
GREEK LAWFUL INHABITANTS NEVER FORGET, and wait for the holy day of RETURN.
Ayia (Saint) Marina, celebrates on July 17
"No one can rest, no one's conscious can be clean, until the hour comes when all refugees return to the ancient Greek land of Famagusta. Famagusta is the land where we belong, is the land of our ancient history, it is where our identity exists".
Unless there is a just solution to the Cyprus problem that will guarantee our return to Achna, our village, we will always struggle for return. With the help of God, and Saint Marina, our village's protector and founder, one day we will return back to a FREE Akhna, and a FREE CYPRUS.
The Turkish army has forced us out from our homes with the use of brutal military power.
The Turkish army has forced us out and away from our land and made us refugees in our own country.
Turkish Cypriots and Turks are now living in our houses.
People from Achna were never a threat to nobody. We used to live in Achna with Turkish Cypriots in peace until 1974. The Turkish army invaded Cyprus and forced us out and denies access to our beloved village since then
We mourn, but then our mourning became anger. We never forget our land, our history and our identity. We never forget, and we will always have in our hearts, and in our thoughts the terrible injustice done to us by the Turkish army. We want Turkish opressors to know that we will never accept a solution that will not guarantee our return to Achna Saint Marina. |
Holly day of return? this not enouph.. return yes but the people who are going to return to be the same of these left .i.e GREEKS |

Karmi
Occupied Karmi village is located in Kyrenia district Cyprus, on Mount Pentadactylos and before the 1974 Turkish invasion it was inhabited solely by Greek Cypriots. Karmi village has been ILLEGALLY SOLD by the Turkish occupation regime to foreign citizens, mainly Britons and Germans, shortly after the 1974 Turkish invasion.
We want to make it ABSOLUTELY CLEAR to the British and Germans that have acquired properties in Karmi that their "title" is not valid because they have acquired STOLEN property belonging to Greek Cypriots. Inter alias, they interfere with Article 1 of Protocol 1 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms concerning the rightful ownership, access, and enjoyment of property. Greek Cypriots are determined to exhaust all lawful means to get their properties back.
Turks have also illegally founded an American University and research center in Karmi, in order to legitimize the ILLEGAL 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

Re Occupied Lapithos
Links and postings of learned, authoritative articles are always useful but one of the benefits of reading and posting on this Forum is that we are able to get across and listen to our own members's first hand experiences which aids our relentless personal searches for some kind of truth, so I found the contributions by Halil, Kifeas and Deniz re their knowledge of the Occupied Village of Lapithos very interesting.
Looking forward to hearing more from these comrades on Lapithos and the events of 63 and 74.
(Very pleased by the way to hear that Senior Member Deniz escaped injury or worse at the hands of the Former Occupation Army) |
